15 Minutes with Louie Vega and Kenny Dope




In the latter part of the '90s when I got into house music, I saw the name Masters At Work a lot. Slowly developing a respect for the DJ/Producer duo, made up of Louie Vega and Kenny Dope, it wasn't until a friend of mine purchased an LP anniversary boxset of the groups remixes, that a respect turned into a gushing admiration of the group.

A huge part of a new "Salsa" scene in New York during the latter part of the 80s through the 90's, Louie used electronic instruments and equipment and sampled live musicans, resulting in a sound obviously influenced by his Latin roots. With the incorporation of that Hip Hop edge, the result is a brand of house music that has given Louie and Kenny long-lasting careers in mainstream and underground electronic music.
